As I lie awake at eleven pm I think about writing, doesn’t any writer? Writing is our life isn’t it? As I lay there trying to sleep I have this nagging question, “When is the best time for a writer to write”? Most writers ask themselves these questions all the time, especially when they don’t have a good writing day, during the day I mean. I know that I have another post about morning writing versus afternoon writing but this is different. Sometimes writers can’t bring themselves to write during the day, but when it is time to sleep that is when the writing flows from them. I have had that happen to me it is happening right now. I don’t have my laptop in my room so I am writing it on my phone and going to type it tomorrow. I am surprised it is staying in my head this long because usually when I have an idea, it’s just an idea that flows when I actually write it on paper, but this is flowing and I am not even writing anything down. I hope that it stays in my head for tomorrow when I write it down then. So enough about the fact that I have an idea that is flowing right now.
Here is the question when is the best time for a writer to write? When the ideas strike. But when do ideas strike? That is the question, for most writer’s ideas strike at any time. Whether you are out doing something with family or friends. When your grocery shopping, watching television and even sleeping. So yes ideas for writing come at any time, but does that mean you drop what you are doing at the time that the ideas strike and write? For most people the answer is yes, but what if you are sleeping? Do you get up and write? I know that I have done that just once, and I titled the post the night owl post, so go and check that out, after you read this one. This idea came after a few others and that is why it is titled what it is titled.
When ideas just keep coming into your head, do you write them down, or get up and just start writing? I guess it depends on the person and who they are. What I mean by that is, some people write better in the day time, like morning, afternoon, early evening, which I have also written a post about so check it out, and others write better late at night. That is when their creative juices flow. It just depends on the person, and when they like to write, it might also depend on how there day went. I know for me if my day has been not so productive I don’t have the ideas flowing as much so I don’t write at night, but if I have a busy and productive day or at least some excitement that is when the ideas come and I write my best stuff. Well it might not be my best stuff but if I have done a lot during the day the writing that comes after it is a lot which in turn is productive. Wouldn’t you say?
When is the best time to write? It depends on the person and what there day is like and when they find the best time to write. For me it depends on what I have done throughout the day, this week for example I have only written twice. I wrote something on Monday and I am writing today which is Friday. Last night though if I had my laptop in my room I probably would have typed out my posts then rather than forcing my brain to remember them, but they are all coming out which is great. I wrote down the idea in my list but I didn’t write the post until today because it’s easier for me to type it rather than write it out by hand and then type it. Not that I haven’t done that, because I have but this works better for me.
Yesterday night the ideas just flowed and I didn’t have my laptop in my room so I just wrote the ideas down and started typing them out this morning, and the writing is continuously flowing. It depends on what my day is like which depends on the flow of writing and how much I get done. In day, there have been days even this week where I haven’t written a thing but I have been working on coming up with ideas and thinking of ways to write a specific post. While I have been doing that other ideas have been coming into my head for other posts too. Last night, after talking to a friend, the inspiration hit tenfold and all I could do was write down the ideas and think about it today. I am thanking that friend for inspiring me so much. As I said before the best time to write is when the ideas strike, but as they were striking for me one after the other yesterday I decided the best time to write was today. When you write when is the best time to write for you?
