Dear Men, Take Pregnancy and Save Your Life

This issue started on social media where a man was joking about a pregnancy test, which turned out to have two lines. He posted the picture of the positive test result to make fun of it, but it turned out it may be an indication of an underlying health condition. One Reddit user commented on his post there that if it is a real photo, he should get tested for testicular cancer. It was a good thing this guy listened and his doctor was able to help him treat the disease during its early stages.

How It Became Possible to Detect the Cancer
Home pregnancy tests have the ability to detect a change in hormone in women, which shows them that they are pregnant. But expecting mothers are not the only ones who can produce the hormone. There are men who have been diagnosed in the past with testicular cancer who naturally have the same hormone. In this case, you should take the test if you want to be safe from this type of cancer.

The hormone being talked about here is human chorionic gonadotropin or HCG. This hormone is found in the placenta of the pregnant woman and may also be present in a man with testicular cancer.

What is Testicular Cancer?
Testicular cancer is a type of cancer that occurs in the testes or the testicles, which are found inside the scrotum – the loose bag of skin right under the penis. The chief job of the testicles is to produce sperm and sex hormones for the males. The good news about testicular cancer is that it is very rare, but it can happen to anyone who is at least 15 years old up to when they reach 35 years.

Why Men Should Take the Test
Peeing on the stick is not just for women anymore and here are the reasons why men should start doing it:
It’s definitely painless
It’s an extremely inexpensive way to check for testicular cancer
You don’t need to book for an appointment with a doctor
It is much easier to treat the cancer during its early stages

Note though that this cancer is actually highly treatable and can even be cured even when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body. However, if found early, the chance of successful treatment is very high, so why not pick up a pregnancy test kit? If it is positive, you should contact a GP and have yourself checked immediately.

Experts suggest that you should talk to a doctor if you think there is something wrong, even if the pregnancy test came back negative.
